I’m Star White, a born and raised Kansas girl with a heart for all things lovely, thoughtful, and creative. I’m VERY excited to be part of Camp Makery and contribute fashion DIY’s and other ideas to take what you already own, and make it even more special. Fashion is something about YOU, but it can also be so many other things. It can be a conversation starter, a way to connect with those around you, and a means to help you develop relationships and positive connections in your life…I know it has for me!

Long before the days of Pinterest, as a teenager, I would read, cut out, and collage fashion magazine photos, trying to mimic the styles with the pieces that hung in my own closet. Through creative processes, I found ways to morph items in my own closet, or pieces I found in thrift stores, into something original, treasured, and my own. Whether cutting, sewing, or mismatching, I’d embellish my outfits to give them a special twist. I’m sure there were days I walked into my high school and people thought I was crazy, but I didn't care. I knew fashion was something important to me, and it was my avenue to be my own person and stand out from those around me.

Today, I’d like to think my style is more fine-tuned, but it’s still almost completely thrifted! My closet is full of items from thrifting adventures at flea markets and second-hand clothing stores, as I’m a firm believer that buying “used” is really the ultimate recycling. Often, I display my outfits on my fashion blog, Beauty & Bows, to inspire and prove to others, that it doesn’t take a lot of money or effort to look stylish, put-together, and be your own unique person.

Besides fashion, my other passion is children. I currently work for a non-profit organization that trains volunteers to work with children in foster care. My dream is to ultimately be a stay-at-home mom and foster parent, who has the time and availability to raise my children in a peaceful environment; giving them opportunity to explore, create, and enjoy the world around them. I’m married to my prince charming and daily inspiration, Daniel, who also works for a non-profit organization that builds hospital clinics the Third World. We live in Wichita, Kansas, in a 1920’s bungalow nestled between the Arkansas River and the Wichita Art Museum.
