Shrimp Cargot - the Perfect Valentine's Day Dinner Appetizer

About five years ago my best friend took me to a restaurant that serves an appetizer called shrimp cargot. This decadent dish is shrimp smothered with butter, garlic, lemon and cheese served with a crusty slice of bread, toasted with cheese. I could honestly have this as a meal, but it is perfect to share, especially for this perfect Valentine’s dinner in! If you want to wow your sweetheart, this will do it!

This amazing dish is just one part of our Ulitmate Valentine's Day Dinner! Check out the rest of the dishes to complete your meal:

  •  ½ LB Shrimp, shelled and deveined
  • ¼ Cup Butter
  • Garlic Salt to taste
  • Pepper
  • 1 Lemon, juiced
  • ½ Cup Shredded Monterrey Jack Cheese
  • Favorite Crusty Bread
  • ½ Cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese

1.     Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Peel, devein, rinse and pat dry your shrimp. Set aside.

2.     Spray your cooking dish, I ordered these escargot dishes from an online restaurant supply store. They were relatively inexpensive and in my opinion worth the $5!

3.     Place your shrimp in the hollowed out dish and dot with butter.

4.     Squeeze ½ of the lemon over each dish, holding your hand under to catch the lemon seeds.

5.     Sprinkle with a small amount of garlic salt, a little goes a long way.

6.     Cover generously with shredded monterrey jack cheese.

7.     Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes.

8.     While this is baking, cut your favorite bread into thin slices, cover with shredded cheddar cheese, and bake alongside the shrimp until golden and toasted.

9.     Allow your shrimp to cool for at least three minutes, serve with the crusty cheddar bread. Enjoy!

Note: If you are limited on time or resources you can always bake your shrimp in a shallow dish like a small ramekin would work beautifully.
