As someone who loves to thrift, I cannot tell you the number of cute blouses I see that have potentional, but just don't fit quite right. The major fit issue is that the shoulder seam falls too far off the shoulder making the blouse look too big. I have a great alteration tip that will help you transform those ill-fitting blouses into that go-to top!
Here is the before picture. Notice the shoulder seam should fit along the dotted line.
To fix this problem round up the necessary supplies:
- blouse (light weight)
- sewing machine
Begin by measureing the length between your neck and shoulder. I used a shirt that already fits me correctly as a reference.
Cut 2 portions of elastic that measure the length of your neck-shoulder distance. Find the insde of the shoulder seam and line up the elastic.
Using your sewing machine, sew a few stitches to secure your elastic in place. Then pull the elastic the length of the seam, holding it in the stretched position as you finish sewing the length of the elastic. Trim up excess thread, turn blouse inside out, and repeat with the other shoulder seam.
There you have it! A super easy alteration that fix!
Here is another blouse I altered to create the same effect on my blog, Beauty & Bows.
